When I was 15 years old, I bought my first VW powered Dune Buggy. Something about that car and the 124 other kit cars, rail buggies, super beetle convertibles, bugs, and other strange vehicles, have dominated my life for 40 years. I have corrupted many friends, family, and even neighbors into the hobby of VW ownership. This trip will be about the celebration of the VW traveling coast to coast. Ending at the largest VW show in America, “
The 2009 VW CLASSIC” in Irvine, California at the Verizon Amphitheatre on June 14th. Anyone can cross the USA from north to south in a boat by just cruising down the Mississippi River. We will be the first to travel from coast to coast, east to west, in our custom made BOATSWAGEN without ever touching water! Take a 1961 fiberglass ski boat and place it on a 1971 beetle and you’ve have a vehicle that people are drawn to like I’ve never seen before, and I have had some strange vehicles in my time. We will be making a movie as we travel of the people we meet, the places we visit, and the unique spots all across America. We will also film the VW CLASSIC with interviews of Bruce Meyers and other legends of the Volkswagen industry. We will start our journey at the end of May and hope to arrive by June 10th. This is an open vehicle so rainy days will be spent under an overpass or under a canopy. We will update this site as we make progress across America, so visit us every day for the latest news. We’ve have some work to do on the vehicle and we are trying to secure some sponsors to defray the costs. Hope you follow along with us, and see you at “The 2009 VW Classic”!
